Scott's Trot 5K Run/Walk & dUATHLON
The Race for 2016 has been cancelled. We look forward to seeing you in 2017
5K RACE description
Scott’s Trot 5K Run/Walk is located in the Nebraska National Forest near Halsey. The race begins on the Middle Loup River Bridge and winds its way through the largest hand planted forest in the world. The beautiful scenery and the wildlife that is often seen is just an added bonus for the participants. The route brings its own unique challenges; as it gently climbs up to an elevation of 2945 feet and ends at the base of the Scott’s Lookout Tower. The Scott’s tower is not a part of the timed event but in order to be eligible for a prize participants are required to climb the 75 steps of the 65 foot tower. This in its self is worth the run. The view from the tower can be breath taking and when all is clear you can see for 10 miles.
Scott’s Trot will challenge the best runners and provide a fun and beautiful walk or jog for those who just want to get off the couch and enjoy the great outdoors! When the race is over we will provide a shuttle down the hill to the park where we will hand out prizes, or if you prefer you may walk down!
DUATHLON RACE DESCRIPTION
Scott’s Trot DUATHLON: (3.1 run, 13.5 bike, 3.1 run) is a 5K (3.1 miles) run up to the Scott’s Lookout Tower and will start at the same time as the 5K Run/Walk, in fact the first leg of the Duathlon is also the Scott’s Trot 5K, it is all black top. The finish line of the 5K will be the transition to the bikes. You will retrieve your bike at the top of the hill; you will walk your bike around the curve and across the next start line, then you may mount your bike. The bike ride is 13.5 miles; it goes down the same hill you ran up, you go over the railroad tracks and turn right onto Hwy 2 (heading East). You will ride thru the town of Halsey and out approximately 5 miles, turn around at Sandhills Road and come back to the forest entry, cross the rail road tracks and finish at the Fish Pond on your left. The bike ride will be all black top. On your last 5K (3.1 miles) you will follow the marked trail. This 5K will be mixed, you will start on sidewalk go to black top then dirt road and then trail, you will turn around at the half way mark and come back the way you came, ending at the fish pond. FYI if you get stopped at the railroad tracks for a train don’t worry, we will have someone there on both sides of the tracks logging your time that you are stopped. We will deduct this from your over all time. Also there will only be one time for the whole race, no transition times will be taken.
We hope to see you all there! Come ‘Trot’ with us!
